How we help
Life events happen. Mortgage protection guards you and your family against their financial impact — from illness or redundancy to the unthinkable — with policies built around your exact circumstances.
Listen
Steven discusses why mortgage protection is so important for you and your family, and the types of policy available.
Mortgage protection
It’s really the most important part of a mortgage application. Insurance protects you against the detrimental effects of life events.
“Mortgage protection” covers a lot: buildings insurance against natural disasters, contents insurance if you’re burgled — and, at the other end, cover if you become critically ill, can’t work, are made redundant or die. Policies can be tailored to your exact circumstances.
You could be left with a large mortgage you can’t afford. Many younger buyers feel fit and healthy and don’t see the need — but we all know someone affected by illness, burglary or job loss. Protection is about the “what ifs”.
If a couple use both incomes to maximise borrowing and something happens to one of them, the other is unlikely to afford the mortgage alone and may have to sell. Life insurance pays off the mortgage for the surviving partner.
Critical illness cover pays out on a defined illness such as cancer, heart attack or stroke — some insurers cover up to 200 conditions. It could repay your mortgage, easing the financial and emotional burden while you receive treatment.

It guards against loss of income if you’re not fit to work. After employer sick pay ends, you may drop to statutory sick pay. Income protection pays a percentage of your income each month until you return to work or the policy ends.
Yes. There’s no blanket policy, so a bespoke combination built around your circumstances works best — most people take a suite rather than a single policy.
Life cover is usually cheap because it’s less likely to pay out; critical illness costs more. Premiums can be adjusted to fit your budget by changing when policies pay out or for how long.
If you have children, it’s well worth considering. If the policyholder dies, it pays the family a set monthly amount until the youngest child reaches 18 or 21 — usually mirroring your monthly income.
Yes. People cover what matters at the time they take out protection, so we contact clients annually to make sure policies are still fit for purpose and good value.
Options include writing a policy in trust, or joint-life, second-death policies rather than the first-death policies traditional in mortgage protection.
Products are designed around your budget — some clients pay £5 a month, others hundreds. When it comes to protection, anything is better than nothing.

Meet the adviser
There’s more to me than just mortgages. I also have a love for the countryside and a unique venture — my alpaca farm. Nestled in the countryside near York, my alpacas are not just my furry friends, but also a testament to my dedication to diverse interests.
Alpacas, much like mortgages, require careful attention, understanding and a keen eye for detail. Just as I meticulously evaluate mortgage options, I apply the same diligence to caring for my herd — a blend of financial acumen and agricultural expertise that sets me apart.
